Evaporator is behind heater core & does not need to be disturbed.
- Disconnect battery
- Disconnect heater hoses
- Plug heater core tubes to prevent spills
- Remove Steering column cover.
- Remove center ash tray & housing
- Remove glove box.
- Remove radio (two screws near bottom of dash & one holding bracket.)
- Remove left spot cooler duct (one screw on support arm.)
- Remove 5 screws holding duct to bottom of this box.
- Remove 3 screws holding this box exposed by step 3.
- Remove center spot cooler
- Remove air distribution housing.
- Remove right spot cooler (one screw on support arm).
- Remove clips holding actuator rods to arms.
- Remove remaining screws holding front cover.
- Remove nut from cover box end of support bracket & swing away.
- Remove front cover box AND heater core as follows:
NOTE: be sure core comes loose and stays with housing as housing is difficult to
remove with heater core in place (core tends to stay in place due to pipes & weather
stripping-that’s why I added screws to hold core to housing.)
- Pull out on the right side bottom of core (while under housing)until pipes at bottom
clear the holes.
- Slide front cover (with core) downward to free pipes from channels.
- Slide to right and down until free.
(April 2015)
Rebuilt Core ready for re-installation.
This side faces A/C core.
A/C core is left in place - heater core covers this.
Note two holes at far bottom right of housing that are for the water tubes seen at
the lower left of heater core picture.
