Torque Strap

The torque strap is a wire rope that goes around the engine mount on the driver’s side. It’s function appears to be to prevent engine torque from stretching the rubber in the motor mount to the point that it pulls apart.

Broken strap

Note the visible channel dug by the wire rubbing on the edge of the motor mount (red circle)

Broken strap (lower part of top picture) and replacements. Two replacements of different size were purchased because the second one was free due to minimum order.

They were made up by West Coast  Wire Rope & Rigging inc. Presumably there are similar companies all around the world

Original spacer was not used, instead the below spacer plus washers were used

Below: spacer made from a nut and original unused spacer mated to new strap

Final job. I am concerned that the strap is too long and may let the rubber break. Time will tell.  Another concern is that the “pull” is not straight from the eyelets on the ends of the strap.
