DO NOT REMOVE THE MOTOR before locking down the arm - the spring will violently unwind. BEFORE removing the motor I drilled a 1/4” hole, and installed a ¼ bolt & nut, so that it goes through the gear and the member holding the motor.

Safety bolt added to lock down the spring.

Remove the gear box cover. Unscrew the two long screws hold the motor to the gear box. Pry the motor shell from the gearbox. Try to keep the end plate on the motor, then carefully remove the end plate - this will separate the armature from the brushes which are on the end plate. This is permanent magnet motor so it will pull the armature out as you separate it from the end plate. My motor needed new brushes which was found on the Internet The armature was turned on a hobby lathe. Some of the parts on the end plate were loose and those were epoxied for strength

All parts were cleaned then reassembled, greased.

When assembling the motor this worked: pull the brushes out, insert armature, release the brushes. While firmly holding the armature in place, lower the outer shell over the armature - be sure to watch for alignment before putting the shell in place.

Greasing & assembling the motor

Remove window controller, unscrew ring around mirror control, remove armrest and the door cover panel. Unplug the motor from wiring harness, check for obstacles & wires below the raising assembly.

Unscrew the bolts as marked on the picture of the door at the left and lower the assembly through the wide slot in the lower part of the door.

(note: this is a good time to clean out the bottom of the door, clear the water holes and paint with a paint that goes over rust.)
